สมุนไพรโลดทะนงแดง มีชื่อท้องถิ่นอื่น ๆ ว่า ทะนง รักทะนง (นครราชสีมา), นางแซง (อุบลราชธานี), โลดทะนงแดง (บุรีรัมย์), ดู่เบี้ย ดู่เตี้ย (เพชรบุรี), ทะนงแดง (ประจวบคีรีขันธ์), ข้าวเย็นเนิน หัวยาเข้าเย็นเนิน (ราชบุรี ประจวบคีรีขันธ์), หนาดคำ (ภาคเหนือ) เป็นต้น

ลักษณะของโลดทะนงแดง
ต้นโลดทะนงแดง จัดเป็นไม้พุ่มขนาดเล็ก มีความสูงได้ถึง 1 เมตร มีรากสะสมอาหารพองโต ผิวสีแดงอมสีม่วง เนื้อสีขาว ส่วนลำต้นมีขนาดเรียวเล็ก ขึ้นเป็นกอ โดยทุกส่วนของต้นจะมีขนขึ้น โดยลำต้นจะมีขนสั้นนุ่มขึ้นหนาแน่น สามารถพบได้ตามป่าเต็งรัง ป่าเบญจพรรณ และตามป่าดิบแล้ง

ใบโลดทะนงแดง ใบเป็นใบเดี่ยวออกเรียงสลับกัน เนื้อใบหนามีขนนุ่มขึ้นหนาแน่นบนผิวใบทั้งสองด้าน ลักษณะใบเป็นรูปขอบขนาน หรือเป็นรูปขอบขนานแกมรูปใบหอก มีความกว้างประมาณ 2-4 เซนติเมตร และยาวประมาณ 6-10 เซนติเมตร ปลายใบแหลม โคนใบมน มีต่อมเล็ก ๆ อยู่ 2 ต่อม ส่วนขอบใบเรียบ สามารถเห็นเส้นใบย่อยได้ชัดเจน และมีก้านใบยาวประมาณ 1-1.5 เซนติเมตร

ดอกโลดทะนงแดง ออกดอกเป็นช่อแบบกระจะ ดอกมีสีขาว สีชมพู สีม่วงเข้มหรือเกือบดำ โดยช่อดอกจะออกบริเวณซอกใบและบริเวณกิ่งก้าน มีความยาวประมาณ 7-10 เซนติเมตร ดอกเป็นแบบแยกเพศอยู่บนต้นเดียวกัน โดยจะมีดอกตัวผู้จำนวนมากกว่าอยู่ที่บริเวณโคนของช่อ มีลักษณะตูมกลม และดอกตัวผู้จะมีกลีบเลี้ยงอยู่ 5 กลีบ ก้านดอกมีขน มีกลีบดอก 5 กลีบ และไม่มีขน มีเกสรตัวผู้จำนวน 6 อัน ก้านเกสรจะเชื่อมติดกันเป็นแท่งเดียว ส่วนดอกตัวเมียจะมีลักษณะตูมเป็นรูปไข่ มีกลีบเลี้ยง 5 กลีบ และมีขน ที่จานฐานดอกล้อมรอบฐานของรังไข่ มีรังไข่อยู่เหนือวงกลีบ กลีบดอกเป็นสีขาว โดยสามารถออกดอกได้ตลอดทั้งปี

ผลโลดทะนงแดง ลักษณะของผลค่อนข้างกลม ผลแห้งแตกได้ มีขนสั้นนุ่มขึ้นปกคลุมผลอยู่หนาแน่น ผลแบ่งออกเป็นพู 3 พู เห็นได้ชัดเจน ผลมีขนาดเส้นผ่านศูนย์กลางประมาณ 12 มิลลิเมตร มีก้านผลสีแดงมีความยาวประมาณ 3-5 เซนติเมตร ภายในผลมีเมล็ดลักษณะค่อนข้างกลมหรือเป็นรูปไข่แกมรูปสามเหลี่ยม สีเหลือง ยาวประมาณ 5-6 มิลลิเมตร ผิวเรียบ

หมายเหตุ : โลดทะนง มีอยู่ด้วยกัน 2 ชนิด ได้แก่ “โลดทะนงแดง” (ชื่อวิทยาศาสตร์ Trigonostemon reidioides (Kurz) Craib) ที่กล่าวในบทความนี้ และอีกชนิดคือ “โลดทะนงขาว” (ชื่อวิทยาศาสตร์ Trigonostemon albiflorus Airy Shaw)[5] โดยทั้งสองชนิดคนส่วนใหญ่จะนิยมปลูกเป็นไม้สมุนไพร แต่ส่วนมากจะรู้จักเฉพาะ “โลดทะนงแดง” ส่วนโลดนงขาวนั้นน้อยคนนักที่จะรู้จัก เนื่องจากเป็นไม้หายาก จึงนิยมใช้โลดทะนงแดงในการแก้พิษกันมากกว่า โดยทั้งสองชนิดนี้มีข้อแตกต่างกันตรงเปลือกหุ้มราก ถ้าเปลือกหุ้มรากเป็นสีแดงจะเรียกว่า “โลดทะนงแดง” หากเปลือกหุ้มรากเป็นสีดำจะเรียกว่า “โลดทะนงขาว“

ข้อมูลทางเภสัชวิทยาของโลดทะนงแดง

จากการศึกษาวิจัยในสัตว์ทดลอง ด้วยการป้อนน้ำยาสมุนไพรโลทะนงแดงที่ความเข้ม 50 กรัมต่อลิตร หลังจากหนูทดลองได้รับพิษงูเห่าด้วยการฉีดพิษเป็นเวลา 5 นาที พบว่าน้ำยาโลดทะนงแดงสามารถช่วยืดอายุการตายของหนูได้

มีนักวิจัยพิสูจน์มาแล้วว่าสารจากโลดทะนง สามารถช่วยจับกับโปรตีนพิษงูได้จริง

ประโยชน์ของโลดทะนงแดง

โรงพยาบาลกาบเชิงได้มีการใช้ตำรับยาสมุนไพรโลดทะนงแดงในการรักษาผู้ที่ถูกงูเห่ากัดประมาณ 80 ราย โดยไม่ต้องใช้เซรุ่มแก้พิษงู และพบว่าทุกรายปลอดภัยไม่มีเสียชีวิต นอกจากนี้ทางมหาวิทยาลัยมหาสารคามเคยวิจัยโดยใช้สมุนไพรชนิดนี้ในการรักษาตำรวจตระเวนชายแดนที่ถูกงูเห่ากัดจำนวน 36 นาย โดยไม่ใช้เซรุ่มแก้พิษในการรักษา และพบว่าได้ผลดีเกินคาด ไม่มีผู้เสียชีวิตแต่อย่างใด อีกทั้งยังไม่พบผลข้างเคียงอีกด้วย

แม้การใช้เซรุ่มจะแก้พิษงูเห่าได้ แต่แผลที่เปื่อยจากพิษงู เซรุ่มไม่ได้ช่วย ถ้าหากใช้โลดทะนงแดง พิษของงูก็จะสลายและแผลก็ไม่เปื่อย (นพ. วีรพัฒน์ เงาธรรมทรรศน์)

สบู่ เป็นผลิตภัณฑ์สำหรับทำความสะอาดร่างกายที่ได้จากปฏิกิริยาของด่างกับไขมันจากพืชหรือสัตว์ ปัจจุบัน สบู่มีการใช้ส่วนผสมชนิดต่างๆเพื่อปรับปรุงคุณสมบัติของสบู่ให้มีลักษณะพิเศษ ตรงตามความต้องการใช้งานที่หลากหลายขึ้น เช่น ทำให้ผิวชุ่มชื้นขึ้น ผิวขาวใส ทำให้ผิวนุ่ม ลื่น และ สะอาด

“สบู่” จากคำข้างต้น หมายถึง ผลิตภัณฑ์ของสบู่ที่ทำให้เป็นก้อนหรือเป็นของเหลว พร้อมด้วยส่วนผสมต่างๆ เพื่อให้มีคุณสมบัติเหมาะสำหรับการใช้ทำความสะอาด ซึ่งก็คือผลิตภัณฑ์สบู่ที่เราใช้กันในทุกวันนี้ ส่วน “สบู่ (soap)” อีกคำที่พบในสมการเคมีจะหมายถึง สารตั้งต้นสำหรับการผลิตสบู่ นั่นก็คือ เกล็ดสบู่ (soap) ที่ได้จากปฏิกิริยาระหว่างด่างเข้มข้นกับไขมันพืชหรือสัตว์ ร่วมด้วยกับกลีเซอรีน (Glycerine)/กลีเซอรอล (Glycerol) ซึ่งสารทั้งสองเป็นสารตั้งต้นในการทำสบู่เหมือนกัน แต่จะให้ผลิตภัณฑ์ที่แตกต่างกัน ซึ่งจะเรียกว่า “เกล็ดสบู่”

รู้ไหมว่าสบู่ที่เราๆใช้กันโดยทั่วไปนี้คือ Detergen หรือสารซักฟอก เพราะถ้าเป็นสบู่ธรรมชาติที่แท้จริงนั้นจะต้องเกิดจากปฏิกริยาที่เรียกว่า Saponification ระหว่างด่างกับไขมันที่ได้จากพืชหรือสัตว์ ผลลัพท์ของปฎิกริยานี้จะได้สบู่และกรีเซอรีน ซึ่งมีคุณสมบัติดีต่อผิว แต่ด้วยเหตุผลในทางการค้าผู้ผลิตมักจะแยกเอากรีเซอรีนออกไป เราจึงได้ใช้แต่กากสบู่ แต่ถ้าคุณต้องการทำความสะอาดผิวไปพร้อมๆกับการถนอมและบำรุงผิวละก็ ลองนี่เลย สบู่ก้อนใสสมุนไพร สูตร มะเฟือง น้ำผึ้ง ขมิ้น วิธีทำก็ไม่ยุ่งยาก ใช้เวลาทำไม่ถึงครึ่งชั่วโมง สบู่สูตรนี้มีสรรพคุณเด่นเหนือสบู่ที่คุณๆใช้อยู่คือ จะช่วยขจัดเซลล์ผิวเก่าได้ดี เมื่อใช้เป็นประจำจะช่วยบำรุงผิวให้นวลเนียน กระชับรูขุมขน และลดสิวเสี้ยน ถ้าเราทำเอง ต้นทุน ต่อนำหนักสบู่ 1 กิโลกรัม ไม่เกิน 250 บาท สบู่สมุนไพรที่ทำขายกันทั่วๆ ไปไม่รู้ว่าเขาใส่อะไรลงไปบ้าง ดีจริงเหมือนโฆษณาหรือเปล่าก็ไม่รู้ แต่เคยลองคำนวณราคาสบู่สมุนไพรที่เขาขายกันทั่วๆไปเฉลี่ยแล้วราคาประมาณ 1 บาท ต่อน้ำหนักสบู่ 1 กรัม หรือ กิโลกรัมละ 1,000 บาท ที่แนะนำนี่ไม่ได้ให้ทำขายนะ เพราะ พวก สบู่ผิวขาว ถ้าจะทำขายก็จะต้องไปทำบรรจุภัณฑ์ให้สวยงาม ต้องมีมาตรฐานผลิตภัณฑ์ ต้องโฆษณา ต้องทำการตลาดและอะไรต่อมิอะไรอีกสารพัด ต้องการให้ทำของดีราคาถูกไว้ใช้เองดีกว่า

มาดูส่วนประกอบของสบู่ มีดังนี้ ไขมันพืช/ไขมันสัตว์ โซเดียมไฮดรอกไซด์/โพแทสเซียมไฮดรอกไซด์ = เกล็ดสบู่ (soap) กลีเซอรอล/กลีเซอรีน แอลกอฮอล์ น้ำ

ชนิดของสบู่
1. สบู่ก้อนขุ่น
เป็นผลิตภัณฑ์สบู่ที่รู้จัก และใช้กันมานานจนถึงปัจจุบัน มีลักษณะเป็นก้อนแข็งสีขาวขุ่นหรือมีสีต่างๆ ตามสีของสารเติมแต่ง เช่น สีเขียว สีชมพู สีม่วง เป็นต้น สบู่ชนิดนี้ใช้สารตั้งต้น คือ เกล็ดสบู่ (soap) ที่ผลิตได้จากปฏิกิริยาข้างต้นเป็นวัตถุดิบสำคัญในการผลิต ที่ให้คุณสมบัติเป็นก้อนแข็ง ขาวขุ่น ให้ฟองมาก

2. สบู่ก้อนใส
เป็นผลิตภัณฑ์สบู่ที่มีลักษณะก้อนใสหรือค่อนข้างใสตามสัดส่วนของกลีเซอรีนที่ผสม ก้อนสบู่จะมีลักษณะอ่อนกว่าสบู่ก้อนขุ่น และสามารถทำให้เกิดสีใสต่างๆตามสารให้สีที่เติมผสม สบู่ชนิดนี้จะให้ฟองค่อนข้างน้อยกว่าสบู่ก้อนขุ่น เนื่องจากมีส่วนผสมของกลีเซอรีนเป็นส่วนใหญ่ สารตั้งต้นที่ใช้อาจเป็นกลีเซอรีนเหลวหรือกลีเซอรีนก้อน (กลีเซอรีนเหลว เอทิลแอลกอฮอล์) ร่วมด้วยกับสารเติมแต่งชนิดต่างๆ

3. สบู่เหลว
เป็นผลิตภัณฑ์สบู่ที่มีน้ำเป็นส่วนผสมทำให้เนื้อสบู่เหลว สีสีสันต่างๆตามสารเติมแต่ง สบู่ชนิดนี้ใช้สารตั้งต้นจากเกล็ดสบู่ (soap) ที่ได้จากปฏิกิริยาข้างต้นเหมือนชนิดสบู่ก้อนขุ่น แต่ต่างกันที่จะใช้ด่างเข้มข้นโพแทสเซียมไฮดรอกไซด์แทนโซเดียมไฮดรอกไซด์ เพราะจะให้เนื้อสบู่อ่อนตัวดีกว่า

ลักษณะของสบู่ที่ดี
1. มีความสามารถทำความสะอาดได้ดี
2. มีฟองในระดับที่เหมาะสม
3. มีความเป็นด่างน้อยในระดับที่ไม่เป็นอันตรายต่อผิวหรือทำลายชั้นไขมันของผิว
4. สบู่ก้อนไม่มีเนื้อเหลว แตกหักง่าย
5. ไม่มีกลิ่นหืน มีกลิ่นหอมน่าใช้ และมีคุณสมบัติเฉพาะในบางกรณี เช่น สบู่ฆ่าเชื้อ

สารเคมีที่ใช้ทำสบู่
1. ไขมัน/น้ำมัน เป็นวัตถุดิบสำคัญในการผลิตสารตั้งต้นสบู่ ไขมันหรือน้ำมันที่ใช้อาจได้จากพืช เช่น น้ำมันมะพร้าว น้ำมันมะกอก น้ำมันปาล์ม เป็นต้น ส่วนไขมันที่ได้จากสัตว์ เช่น ไขมันโค กระบือ แกะ แพะ เป็นต้น คุณภาพของน้ำมันที่ได้จากพืช และสัตว์จะมีผลต่อคุณภาพของสบู่ เกล็ดสบู่ (soap)ที่ได้จากน้ำมันพืชจะให้ลักษณะขาวเนียน และกลีเซอรีนจะค่อนข้างใสกว่าน้ำมันจากสัตว์ นอกจานั้น เกล็ดสบู่ (soap) ที่ได้จากน้ำมันจากพืชจะมีกลิ่นหืนน้อยกว่าน้ำมันจากสัตว์ อีกทั้งน้ำมันจากพืชยังเป็นวัตถุดิบที่หาง่าย และราคาถูกกว่า

2. ด่างเข้มข้น เป็นสารเคมีสำคัญที่ใช้ทำปฏิกิริยากับไขมันธรรมชาติ ด่างเข้มข้นที่นิยมใช้ คือ โซเดียมไฮดรอกไซด์ ซึ่งจะได้เนื้อสบู่สีขาวทึบ เนื้อก้อนแข็ง ให้ฟองมาก นิยมนำมาทำสบู่ก้อนทึบ และอีกชนิดหนึ่ง คือ โพแทสเซียมไฮดรอกไซด์ ซึ่งจะได้สบู่ในลักษณะเดียวกัน แต่เนื้อสบู่มีความอ่อนตัวได้ดีกว่า นิยมนำมาทำสบู่เหลว

3. สารเติมแต่ง เป็นสารเคมีสำหรับปรับปรุงคุณสมบัติของสบู่ เช่น สี น้ำหอม สมุนไพร สารป้องกันความชื้น สารลดความเป็นด่าง สารลดแรงตึงผิว สารทำให้ฟองคงตัว สารเพิ่มความแข็ง สารป้องกันการออกซิเดชัน สารบำรุงผิว สารฆ่าเชื้อ เป็นต้น เป็นสารเติมแต่งที่นิยมผสมในสบู่เพื่อให้มีคุณสมบัติเหมาะแก่การใช้ประโยชน์ในแต่ละอย่าง
